Terroir and wine-making

Cometa is a white wine from Sicily made only with Fiano grapes, an ancient and noble Campanian vine, grown in the territory of Menfi DOC, on the shores of Lake Arancio, at an altitude of 75 meters above sea level. The vines grown with a cordon system, grow on calcareous-clay soils that contribute to enhance the typical Mediterranean aromas of the vine. The extraordinary organoleptic qualities of Fiano DOC Cometa are also due to the scrupulous vinification process that begins immediately after the harvest at the end of August. The berries are gently pressed and settled at low temperature. The must ferments in steel on fine lees at a temperature of 15°C. After that, the wine is ready to be bottled. It is good both young, and aged 4-5 years.

Notes of taste

The Fiano Cometa takes on a pale yellow color, enriched with green reflections. The nose is full of enchanting aromas of broom and thyme that mix with those of camomile, hay and mandarin. On the palate it is intense and enveloping but always balanced. It is appreciated in its minerality and acidity and in the long and persistent finish.

Wine at the table

Cometa Menfi DOC by Planeta is the ideal wine to accompany hot and cold fish dishes: from starters and carpaccio to shellfish and oysters, including soups, first courses, grilled fish and stewed. It is also great as an aperitif and with blue cheeses.

Curiosity

With the Cometa wine, Planeta has achieved its goal of making a great Italian white wine with only grapes from southern Italy. The ambition to produce a wine able to compete with the best whites in the world has guided the project from the beginning: the choice of the vine fell on the Fiano, whose 'Mediterranean' characteristics are best suited in a territory as appropriate as that of Sicily.
