Terroir and wine-making
The Lighea wine of Donnafugata is obtained from Zibibbo Sicilia DOC grapes that grow in the warm island of Pantelleria, their area of choice. Once harvested and carefully selected, the grapes ferment in steel at a temperature of 14-16° C. Following a period of 2 months of aging in tanks and 3 months in bottles. The longevity of this wine can reach 4-5 years.
Notes of taste
The Zibibbo DOC Lighea illuminates the glass with a bright straw yellow color veined with greenish reflections. Its fragrant fragrances let you perceive aromas of zagara, tobacco peach and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, its olfactory notes are confirmed by the fresh mineral vein which makes it more lively.
Wine at the table
Lighea Donnafugata is the Zibibbo DOC to be preferred in the company of raw fish dishes, fried foods and elaborate salads. Excellent with pasta with sardines or with wild asparagus. It goes well with all dishes of blue fish. The service temperature is 9-11 °C.
Curiosity
The name Lighea chosen by Donnafugata for his Zibibbo DOC with its complex and innovative character is inspired by the mermaid protagonist of a story by Tomasi di Lampedusa. The design on the label is also particular and evocative, portraying the face of the mermaid with shades of colors reminiscent of the island of Pantelleria.
