Terroir and wine-making

The Petit Verdot grapes find in the terroir of Noto an extraordinary habitat that greatly enhances their peculiarities. The vineyards are located at 130 meters above sea level and are exposed to south/ east. The vines are grown with a stem system on a medium soil with predominance of limestone.

Every year, from 8 September, the winemakers of the winery hand-harvest the grapes and then carry out fermentation at about 30° C. The maceration lasts for 14 days, After these, the wine begins its maturation phase of 16 months in small French oak barrels. Zisola Effe Emme has a potential for aging of over 20 years.

Notes of taste

This Petit Verdot by Mazzei is a wine of great complexity and elegance. Intense with notes of underbrush and peat, it reveals a remarkable organoleptic thickness that elevates it to a great Sicilian red.

Wine at the table

The Zisola Effe Emme accompanies well all meal. It prefers company of meat dishes and game dishes. Perfect pairing with aged cheeses.

Curiosity

The Mazzei winery has chosen to name its Petit Verdot after the name Effe Emme, which takes up the initials of its founder, Filippo Mazzei. The same initials are 'sewn' on the label as if to compare wine with a unique garment of tailoring.
