Terroir and wine-making
The Passito di Pantelleria Donnafugata Ben Ryé is made with only Zibibbo grapes, or Moscato d'Alessandria, which grow on the island of Pantelleria. The vines are raised with a system of tree-shaped trees, recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage. Once the must is obtained, the grapes are added, hand-peeled and selected directly from the vineyards. During the maceration, the raisins release their extraordinary sweetness and aroma that is poured into the wine at the time of tasting.
Notes of taste
Ben Ryé Donnafugata takes on a brilliant amber colour that recalls its precious nature. It releases a bouquet of intense and fragrant aromas of apricot and candied citrus peel, to which are added balsamic notes, honey and fig. On the palate it surprises with freshness and complexity and reveals its intensity and sweetness balanced by a slight acidity. It has a long and persistent ending.
Wine at the table
At the table, Ben Ryé is delighted by elaborate dishes such as caramelized duck, herborate cheeses, foie gras and all the dry pastries. It is a great wine for meditation, to drink alone. It should be served at 14°C.
Curiosity
Ben Ryé means 'son of the wind' in Arabic. Donnafugata chose this name for his Passito di Pantelleria because of the wind that blows between the grapevines of the island’s vineyards.
